Yelp
Available in London, Italy, and Poland
Yelp, a multinational American company, is a review platform that connects customers with local businesses. Owners of foodservice businesses can create accounts to interact with customers. The site has more than 163 million reviews and is sourced directly from customers. Yelp discovered that diners are choosing independent restaurants in the US, while fast-casual chains have seen a 16% drop in ratings. This was thanks to its vast network. Last month, the company introduced hygiene scores to its platform for restaurants in New York City, California, Texas and Illinois. This score is based on the national database of health inspection reports that local governments have and will be implemented in other states in the coming months.

The reservation company had its app redesigned earlier this year. It now offers two tabs: one that displays restaurant options based upon the diner’s location, time of day, and other tabs that offer personalized recommendations based on customer preferences and dining history. OpenTable added a seating options feature last week to its app. This allows diners to reserve seats anywhere inside and outside of a restaurant or bar.
